Terms of Service
Last updated and effective: September 27, 2026. Salthouse Hub is operated by Salthouse Farms LLC, Sheridan, Wyoming.
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a contract between you and Salthouse Farms LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company, 30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, which operates Salthouse Hub (“Salthouse Hub,” “we,” “us”). They govern your use of salthousehub.com and everything on it.
By creating an account, posting a listing, reserving an animal, or otherwise using the site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site. Our Privacy Policy is part of these Terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account. Sellers must be 18 or older because our payment processor requires it for payouts.
If you use Salthouse Hub on behalf of a business, farm or ranch, you represent that you are authorized to bind that entity, and “you” means both you and it. You must not use the site if you are barred from doing so under U.S. law, or if we have previously removed your account.
3. Your account
You are responsible for your account: keep your password secret, keep your name and email current, and tell us promptly at howdy@salthousehub.com if you believe someone else has access. Everything done through your account is treated as done by you. One person or entity, one account. Do not create a second account to get around a suspension or a removal.
4. What Salthouse Hub is, and what it is not
We are a venue. Salthouse Hub lists animals that other people own and sell. The distinction decides who is responsible when something goes wrong:
- We are not the seller. We never own, possess, handle, transport, inspect, or take custody of any animal listed on the site.
- We are not a party to your sale. The contract for an animal is between the buyer and the seller. We do not guarantee either side’s performance.
- We are not an escrow agent, a bank, or a money transmitter. A deposit is charged to the buyer’s card by our payment processor and transferred to the seller’s own account with that processor at the moment it is paid. We do not hold it and we take no part of the purchase price. See section 7.
- We are not a livestock dealer, an auctioneer, a broker, or a market agency, and we do not act as an agent for either side.
- We are not a veterinarian. Nothing on the site is veterinary, agricultural, tax, or legal advice.
We do not verify animals. Our verification checks the seller’s identity and address (section 9). It says nothing about any animal’s health, age, weight, breeding status, temperament, pedigree, registration, or fitness for any purpose.
5. Buyer accounts
A buyer account is free. Anyone can browse listings without an account; seeing prices, messaging a seller and reserving an animal require you to sign in. To reserve you must give us your name so the seller knows who they are dealing with.
6. Seller membership
Price. $200 per year or $29.95 per month, as shown when you choose a plan. We may change prices, but not during a period you have already paid for, and we will give you at least 30 days’ notice before a change affects your renewal.
When you are charged. You put a card on file when you apply. Nothing is charged until your application is approved: automatically, the moment Stripe has verified you and any documents we asked for check out, or otherwise by us. Approval charges the first period to that card.
No commission. We take no percentage of any sale. Membership is what you pay us.
Automatic renewal. Your membership renews automatically at the end of each period, charged to the card on file, until you cancel.
Cancelling. Cancel any time from Payments, under “Manage membership and billing”: it takes two clicks, needs no phone call, and we will not put you through a retention pitch. Your listings stay live and your membership continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not refund partial periods.
Failed payments. If a renewal charge fails we will tell you and retry. While it remains unpaid we may hide your listings. Your listings and account are not deleted.
Suspension does not cancel a sale. If your membership lapses or your account is suspended while a buyer holds a reservation on one of your animals, that reservation still runs to completion and you remain obligated to complete it.
7. Deposits, pickup and refunds
This is the core mechanic of the marketplace. Both sides should understand it before using it.
7.1 How a reservation works
- Reserving an animal requires a deposit of 50% of the listed price, rounded up to the cent, plus a service fee. Both are shown before you pay.
- Starting a reservation holds the animal for 15 minutes while you pay. If payment does not arrive in that time the hold is released and the listing stays on the market.
- The deposit is transferred to the seller’s account with our payment processor at the moment you pay. Salthouse Hub does not hold it and takes no part of it.
- The deposit counts toward the purchase price. It is not an extra charge.
- Reserving marks the listing reserved and removes it from browse.
7.2 The service fee
The service fee is a flat platform fee, calculated so that the buyer’s total covers the deposit and the cost of processing the card. It is the same for every buyer regardless of card type, is disclosed before you pay, and is not a credit-card surcharge. The service fee is retained by Salthouse Hub and is not refundable except as set out in 7.5 and 7.6.
7.3 The seven-day pickup window
Reserving starts a seven-day window. Within it the buyer must collect the animal and pay the remaining balance directly to the seller. The site shows both of you the balance that is due.
We are not involved in the balance. It is paid buyer to seller in cash, by certified check, or however the two of you agree. We do not process it, hold it, or take a cut.
Extensions. Either party may propose a later pickup date through the site, and the other may accept it there, before the current deadline. Once accepted, the new deadline replaces the old one. Agreements made by phone, text, or in person do not move the deadline and we cannot enforce them.
7.4 Missing the window
If the buyer has not collected the animal by the deadline:
- The seller keeps the deposit. It is already in their account; no transfer is required.
- The listing goes back on the market automatically.
- The service fee is not refunded.
7.5 Reporting a misrepresented animal
You may report a reservation if the animal materially differs from its listing: a different animal, a materially different age, weight, sex, or breed, an undisclosed illness or injury, or a breeding status that is not as stated. To be eligible for a refund you must:
- Not take the animal. Once you load it, the sale is complete.
- Report it through your reservation before you confirm pickup, and within the pickup window (including any accepted extension).
The seller is told and may respond through the site, and both of you may attach photos. An administrator then decides. If we uphold the report, we refund your deposit in full including the service fee, and the listing returns to the market. If we do not uphold it, the reservation stands and the pickup clock resumes with the review time added back.
We decide reports at our reasonable discretion, from the listing, the photos, the messages between you, and anything either side sends us. We are not a court, we cannot inspect the animal, and our decision does not prevent either of you from pursuing the matter yourselves.
7.6 A seller cancelling a reservation
A seller may cancel a reservation they cannot honor, for example if the animal dies, is injured, or becomes unfit for sale. The buyer receives a full refund including the service fee, and the listing returns to the market. Because the buyer’s service fee is refunded, the seller is charged a cancellation fee equal to that service fee, charged to the card on file at the time of cancellation.
7.7 Confirming pickup
Either party may confirm pickup through the site once the animal has changed hands.
- A buyer’s confirmation is final immediately and ends the refund window.
- A seller’s confirmation gives the buyer 24 hours to dispute it before it becomes final.
7.8 Chargebacks
Disputing a card charge with your bank instead of using the report process in 7.5 is a breach of these Terms. If you have a problem, report it: that route is faster, and it is the one that can actually return your money.
8. Listing rules
Sellers are responsible for every word and image in a listing being accurate and current.
You must describe the animal honestly, including known health problems, injuries, vices and defects; use recent photographs of the actual animal you are selling; state the price you will honor; say what papers you can provide; and update or remove the listing when it sells or the facts change.
You must not list an animal you do not own or have authority to sell; list an animal that is stolen, subject to a lien, or under quarantine; misrepresent breed, age, sex, weight, health, pregnancy, or registration status; use another person’s photographs; list animals whose sale is prohibited by federal, state, or local law, including protected or endangered species; list any animal for fighting, baiting, or an illegal purpose; or use a listing to advertise anything other than the animal.
A listing runs for 45 days and then expires; we remind you three days before. You may list the animal again if it is still for sale. We may remove any listing at any time, with or without notice, if we believe it breaks these rules.
9. Seller verification and the badge
Before you may sell, we verify:
- Your identity and payout details, through our payment processor’s own onboarding. We never see the documents; we are told only whether you passed.
- Your address, when our payment processor still lists something outstanding on your account. You upload at least two documents showing your name or business at your address. Software reads them first; a clear match approves you on the spot, and anything less goes to a member of our staff. A refusal is always a person’s decision. If we cannot approve them we tell you why, and you may upload new documents.
Approval means we did those checks and you are cleared to list. It is not a guarantee of character, solvency, or the quality of any animal.
Upheld reports count against you. Three upheld misrepresentation reports will normally result in removal of your account, with no refund of membership fees; the decision is an administrator’s. We may also suspend or remove an account at any time for fraud, abuse, threats, non-payment, or repeated breach of these Terms.
10. Health papers, brand inspection and transport
This is your responsibility, not ours, and the rules vary by state and by species. We do not arrange, inspect, certify, or supervise any of it. You are responsible for knowing and complying with every applicable requirement, which commonly include:
- Certificates of Veterinary Inspection (health certificates) for interstate movement.
- Brand inspection. Colorado is a brand-inspection state: cattle, horses and some other livestock generally require inspection on change of ownership and before transport. Other states have their own rules.
- Official identification such as eartags, particularly for cattle moving interstate.
- Species-specific testing, for example Coggins testing for horses and NPIP requirements for poultry.
- Quarantine, disease-control and import requirements in the destination state.
- Transport, including trailering, welfare in transit, and any permits.
Buyers arrange and pay for their own hauling. Sellers must not misstate what papers they hold. Neither of you should assume the other has handled it.
11. Taxes
You are responsible for your own taxes. We do not calculate, collect, or remit sales tax on animal sales, and we do not advise on whether a sale is taxable. Sellers receiving payments through our payment processor may receive tax forms from that processor and are responsible for reporting their own income.
12. Payments and our payment processor
Payments are processed by Stripe. Sellers must open and maintain a Stripe connected account, and by doing so agree to the Stripe Connected Account Agreement. You authorize us to instruct Stripe to charge, transfer, and refund as described in these Terms.
Deposits arrive in a seller’s Stripe balance immediately and become available for payout after a 21-day delay that we set, so that money is still there if a refund is owed under 7.5 or 7.6. If Stripe restricts, suspends, or closes your account, we may hide your listings until it is resolved. We do not store card numbers, bank details, or identity documents.
13. Messages and reports between users
Messaging is for arranging a sale. Do not use it for spam, harassment, threats, or to move a deal off-platform in order to avoid these Terms. We may review messages when investigating a report, a dispute, or suspected fraud. We are not obliged to monitor them and generally do not.
You may report another user’s conduct from their listing or from a reservation you share. An administrator reviews every report, may contact either of you, and may warn, suspend, or remove an account. The person reported is not told who reported them. Filing a report you know to be false is itself a breach of these Terms.
14. Your content
You keep ownership of your photographs and listing text. You grant Salthouse Hub a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, resize, and display that content for the purpose of operating and promoting the marketplace. This license ends when you delete the content, except for copies kept in backups or needed for the record of a completed transaction or an open dispute. You represent that you own or have permission to use everything you upload.
15. Prohibited conduct
Do not: break the law; impersonate anyone; scrape, crawl, or harvest listings, prices, or user information by automated means; attempt to obtain prices without an account; interfere with or probe the site’s security; upload malware; use the site to launder money or to process a payment unrelated to a real animal sale; manipulate reports; or help anyone else do any of these.
16. Disclaimers
The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
We make no warranty of any kind about any animal. Not health, age, weight, sex, breed, pedigree, registration, pregnancy, temperament, soundness, productivity, or fitness for any purpose. Every animal is sold by its seller, and any warranty is the seller’s alone. We do not inspect animals and we cannot vouch for them. We do not warrant the conduct of any user.
Some states do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
17. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Salthouse Farms LLC and its officers, members, employees, and agents will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or relating to these Terms or the site, whether based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise, and even if we were advised of the possibility.
Our total liability to you for all claims in any twelve-month period will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid Salthouse Hub in those twelve months, or (b) one hundred dollars ($100).
We are not liable for any injury, death, illness, disease, property damage, or economic loss caused by an animal bought or sold through the site, or arising from its transport, handling, or keeping. Some states do not allow these limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
18. Indemnification
You will indemnify and hold harmless Salthouse Farms LLC and its officers, members, employees, and agents from any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your use of the site, your listings, any animal you buy or sell, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of anyone else.
19. Disputes between users
Disputes about an animal or a sale are between the buyer and the seller. We provide the report process in 7.5 and decide it in good faith, but we are not a court and our decision does not bind you or limit your other remedies. You release Salthouse Farms LLC from claims arising out of disputes with other users.
20. Disputes between you and us
Before filing anything, contact us at howdy@salthousehub.com and give us 30 days to work it out. Most things get solved there.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any action must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Sheridan County, Wyoming, and both of us consent to their jurisdiction. Either of us may bring a qualifying claim in small claims court.
21. Termination
You may close your account at any time from your account page. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with notice where practical, for breach of these Terms, fraud, non-payment, or conduct that puts other users at risk.
On termination: active reservations run to completion; deposit obligations survive; membership fees already paid are not refunded; your listings are removed. Sections 4, 7.8, 11, 14, and 16 through 22 survive.
22. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will post the update, change the date at the top, and email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after that means you accept the new Terms; if you do not, close your account before the effective date.
Changes never apply retroactively to a reservation already in progress. The Terms in force when a reservation was made govern it through to completion.
23. General
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the site.
- Severability. If any part is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce something, that is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- Force majeure. Neither of us is liable for failure to perform caused by events beyond reasonable control, including natural disaster, disease outbreak, quarantine order, or government action.
- Notices. We send notices to the email on your account. You send them to howdy@salthousehub.com.
- No third-party beneficiaries, except that sections 16 through 18 also protect our officers, members, employees, and agents.
